Death Dance:

Taken at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire 2011

Signs (with compelling typography) are some of my most sought after photos since I got my D80 a while back. Besides making for a great reference library, the fact that signs hold awfully still for you while you’re fumbling through f-stops and ND filters make them a desirable target for a clumsy beginner.

As I’ve gotten more involved with type in my design & mograph work, it’s been great to see how letterforms can be effected by the surface they are applied to. Natural distressing, spec highlights, and texture are the type of things you don’t always get from flipping through the pages of the newest Logo Lounge or Los Logos books. So if you’re like me and a bit shaky with your buttons and knobs on your shiny new DSLR, or your a bit too shy to start approaching strangers on the street to take their photos, be on the lookout for your friendly neighborhood graffiti, street signs, or bumper stickers.

They can be you best friends while you’re figuring out what the heck you’re doing.
